I am a teacher librarian in a K-5 school. It's the perfect job for me because I get to apply everything I've learned in the past 22 years. I've been a special education teacher, a general education teacher and literacy specialist.
Being a librarian is all about teaching kids how to find answers. My units are designed to help kids organize their thoughts so they know what questions they have! My job is to guide them to resources that will support their learning.
I have achieved National Board Certification in the area of Early/Middle Childhood Literacy.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Reading and Language Development, and dual certification in elementary education and special education.
Teaching children how to read and write has always been my passion, and I’m especially interested in early literacy curriculum development. I was very fortunate to be able to stay home with my boys when they were young. During that time, I wrote curriculum for an educational publisher and learned a lot about early childhood. When I was ready to go back to work in the classroom, I knew I wanted to focus on early childhood education.
