The Art Room is a NO Fidget toy classroom... their hands are already too busy making art. Hanging this on my door outside my classroom and on my board stopped all the annoying "playing" that had at once started.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hi! Little bit about me... The end of this school year (2014-2015) will mark my 15th year of teaching art. I am an National Board Certified Art Teacher and I have my masters degree in Art Education. I have officially taught Kindergarten through 12th grade and have found that no matter the grade - I LOVE teaching art. ~~~ Kindergarten - 8th Grade Art - Taught 7 years (1999-2007); High School Art - Intro to Art, Drawing 1/2, Drawing 3/4, Adv. Art - Currently teaching - 8 years (so far; 2007-present); Professional Development Classes - Reflective Teaching - National Board Pre-Candidacy Class

MY TEACHING STYLE

On this page you will find lesson plans for projects, high school Intro to Art and Drawing 1-4 classes, that include Project Objective(s), Materials/Tools, Vocabulary, Procedures, Helpful Hints/Warnings/Insights, Grading Rubrics, Student Written Reflections, and student examples of the project. ~~~~ Upon completion of the project, the students always grade themselves first and do their written reflection before turning their work and grading rubric/reflection into me. I only grade their work after they have graded it and only change grades when necessary. This process does take a bit of getting used to by the students, but once they get into the routine of it, they not only end up grading themselves fairly accurately, but their work also improves because they know how to push it to the next level to really make it exceptional, and earn the most points. The curriculum I have developed and the pacing of it build on skills and techniques that the students use from one lesson to the next. The Elements of Art and Principles of Design serve as the foundational vocabulary that the students use to talk and write about their work.
