TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a Master's level certified English teacher from Long Island, and I have been teaching English Language Arts for nine years. I began my career at the middle school level, but I feel most at home teaching grades 9-12. Most of my experience throughout the last nine years has been in my inclusion classroom as well as my 11th grade classroom. I therefore have worked diligently on creating materials that lend to differentiated instruction while remaining in line with the Common Core standards. I also have experience as a grammar and writing coach, and I truly believe in the importance of teaching grammar: especially at the high school level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Innovative and outside the box! I plan my lessons more as a facilitator and a mentor so that my students are at the helm, and I absolutely refuse to ever "teach to the test."

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Deborah C. Hecht Writing Award - Stony Brook University 2014

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned my Masters Degree in Liberal Arts Studies from Stony Brook University. I earned a dual Bachelors Degree in Adolescent Education (7-12) and in English Language Arts from SUNY Oneonta.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am happily married to my husband of six years and I am a busy mom of three: I teach because I love working with kids and find my job absolutely fulfilling!
