Kim's experience consists of 9 years in fourth grade, 4 years in third grade, and 3 years in the role of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Specialist. She currently services her district's elementary schools with a focus on math. Savannah has been in the classroom for 3 years, teaching 1 year in first grade and 2 years in second grade. She will soon complete her graduate studies and graduate as a primary math specialist.
Kim and Savannah have worked together very closely over the past 2 years. Both of them passionately believe in student-centered instruction, where students have control of their learning. Both educators believe in teaching conceptually (especially in mathematics) and providing students opportunities for hands-on, meaningful learning experiences. They believe that students should discover concepts on their own with guidance from their teacher instead of being told how or why things work. Discussion among students is one of the most powerful tools they use in the classroom. Kim and Savannah both believe in differentiating instruction to ensure that each student receives meaningful lessons.
Savannah graduated with a Bachelor's degree for elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 2010. She will complete her graduate studies at Western Kentucky University in the summer of 2012 as an elementary math specialist.
