Jean Holler has been a teacher for 27 years, teaching from grades Pre-K through 6th. Every teacher knows the feeling when someone looks into your eyes with excitement and says, "I get this now!". Teaching has been a window to the world for her. It has altered her perspective regarding what is truly important within families, and what it means to be a parent. Kirsten Johnson has taught Pre-K in the private sector for 3 years, also serving as an Art Class Coordinator for those 3 years. She has also created and implemented her own art curriculum to students ranging from Pre-K through college for 6 years and is a professional artist herself. Kirsten has provided in-home autism therapy for 2 years, creating her own curriculum and assisting in building an in-home special needs classroom. In addition, she has provided reading and writing assistance for elementary-aged children for 2 years.
Jean tries to set clear expectations and consequences in a well-managed environment in which students feel safe to try, to participate. She focuses on the positive. She also strives to model respect for differences and to model curiosity and a desire to keep learning. Kirsten is a huge believer in making learning as fun for the teacher as it is for the student. She believes that if you are putting passion and play into your teaching, your students will reflect that joy for learning both in and outside the classroom.
One of Jean's greatest moments was receiving a letter of thanks from a family whose daughter had come to her desperately trailing behind her peers. It was read to an audience by her principal upon her retirement. Kirsten Johnson received Summa Cum Laude honors upon graduating with her bachelors degree from George Fox University. She has also received a prestigious award from her peers and educations for Concept Creation in 2008.
Jean has a Masters Degree in Education and is also a certified Reading Specialist with 27 years teaching experience. Kirsten has her BA with a concentration in 2D Design and Concept Creation and 7 years teaching experience.
