I have worked with children ages 2-6 years old for more than 14 years. In addition to 12 years of teaching, I have also operated my own day care center, worked with adolescents, served as a parent coordinator for the NYC Dept. of Education, and as a coach for new early childhood teachers. I've executed professional developments and have experience in curriculum mapping. I've had the pleasure of being a certified CPR instructor that trained teachers and helped them to create strategies for dealing with such emergencies in a classroom setting. These days, I find enjoyment in my role as "The Curriculum Lady," which provides me lots of opportunities to work with teachers to create a rich learning environment for their students. I feel blessed to have been afforded the opportunity to follow my dream of being an educator; a dream that I've had since I was five years old. I have always been a teacher that uses my students' interests to drive my instruction. When I started teaching, I seemed to naturally gravitate to using art and literacy as the core of my lesson planning (and still do in many respects), but found that I gradually added music, science, and in current times, technology as a means to drive instruction. I am very hands-on and enjoy being immersed in the lessons WITH my students so that they can feel my energy and get excited about learning.
NYC Dept. of Education- Merit Award for Outstanding Work, Distinguished Honor Award for Excellence in Writing, Teacher of the Month, Outstanding Educational Support- Honorary of the Year
I attended Brooklyn College and Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY. I absolutely LOVE to learn so I will always be a lifelong learner- in school (as the student) whenever I can. I love the idea of broadening my scope beyond the education field and being able to incorporate what I learn into the work I do every day.
I love reading, writing, networking, and learning new things. I take a particular interest in real estate, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment. Future career goal: teach on a college level. Something I've always wanted to do: ride in a hot air balloon.
