TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have experience working with toddlers all the way up to high school students in all areas of speech and language. My passion is working with high functioning autism students and teaching pragmatic language. Currently, I work with K-8 students and love creating materials for language development and social-pragmatic language. I also have a background in assessing and working with dual language learners across many different languages.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love finding ways to incorporate all learning styles and modalities. Using activities that are interactive and require physical movement paired with language seem to be most engaging for students. Furthermore, I love teaching vocabulary and oral comprehension through the use of books. They are the best form of therapy! They have visuals and you can model/develop so many skills through reading a great story.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I passed the PRAXIS on the first try. That should be worth something!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Sacramento State University for both my under graduate and graduate degree in speech pathology and audiology.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My hubby and I are a dynamic duo! I think up the fantabulous ideas and he executes them with his mad art skills. He is studying web and graphic design and gets practice workin' his visual talents helping me create materials that are unique and specific to my program. I am a mother of a 10 year old little boy and 6 year old girl. My children have taught me so much and have shaped the clinician I am today. I wouldn't be as knowledgeable about my field without watching them grow and develop! One of my mentors is my late Uncle Alfee who was an amazing teacher and administrator for L.A. Unified School District. He left this world unexpectedly last May, but did not leave without leaving a lasting mark. His passion for teaching intercity children, inspired me to become a speech therapist. He quoted Mark Twain often and this quote inspired me to open my TPT store and start my blog. I hope this quote brings you some insight and direction for the GREAT things you can accomplish in this life as educators! "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain
