Here's another piece from my upcoming book The Big Book of Modes. This is a composition in Dorian Mode and introduces the students to eighth notes (ti-ti). While it has a minor overtone, there's a hint of major tonality as well. Advanced students

Here's another composition in the major scale (Ionian). This one introduces students to pattern sequencing and arpeggios. Students have that "a-ha" moment when I show them how the sequences add up. With the BoomWhackers I make 8 students line up,

One of the simplest tunes to start off with. Can be performed on any instrument, including the Boomwhackers. The noteheads are colour coded to match the Boomwhackers. This sheet music has been presented as a "guess the song," kind of challenge.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I've been teaching for the last decade or so. What gets me excited in music education is pedagogy and the science of how students (especially toddlers) learn music. I'm also a composer, producer and run a home studio with projects geared towards kids. I've got a couple of exciting projects going on.... I'm writing a book of original music that uses principles of Music Learning Theory. This is so that teachers can use progressive compositions to get their students to understand music and perform it well. I'm composing an album for pre-school students that focuses on musicality rather than words or rhythms. I'm also a composer and playwright. Hopefully one of these days you'll catch my work on bandcamp or YouTube.
