I taught first grade for three years in the inner city of Cleveland. After my time in Cleveland, I moved back home to Akron, Ohio to teach guided reading intervention. I then moved on to Youngstown, Ohio, where I have been teaching second grade for six years.
I am a firm believer in differentiated instruction. I teach second grade in a co-teaching friendly connected classrooms (convenient classrooms that make it easy for co-teaching and safe for students). I have created a curriculum that caters to the needs of all academic levels. I Pre Assess all students before each unit and use the scores to separate them into learning groups. I have two different lists for spelling instruction, six different guided reading groups, and three levels for all other subject areas. With my classroom being inclusion, I have a wide spectrum of students working at a kindergarten level all the way up to a fifth grade level. My teacher made curriculum meets the needs of all my students and teaches and assesses them on their own academic level.
Our school's reading scores were the highest of all elementary schools across three counties.
I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Science. I then went on to John Caroll University where I received my license and Master's in Education through the MEd program.
