I have been teaching theatre arts in Texas public schools for 7 years. Previous to that, I taught in the Dallas Children's Theatre and in the Dallas after school theatre arts programs. I also coach an award winning drama competition team.
As a drama teacher, I believe it is very important to empower students to feel good about themselves and to feel safe while they are performing. I combine fun activities with a focus on artistic discipline. It is wonderful to have fun and I encourage that on a daily basis! However, it is important to understand that in a production, other people are depending on you and that trust and dependability are essential traits. I have a lot of student lead activities to develop responsibility with different students taking a leadership role each week.
Great drama teacher award as voted by my drama students!
I have a BA in Psychology with a minor in Theatre Arts. I am working on the last class in my masters program in School Counseling. If I can stand to leave the classroom, I will become a counselor in the next few years.
I come from a family of teachers. My mother, grandmother, aunts, cousins and sisters were all teachers. We are all lifelong learners and I believe that if I can help students find their love for learning that they will be successful people.
