I began teaching in 2005 in Austin, TX. I taught High School Agricultural Science classes while completing my Masters degree. When I left teaching high school I began to teach Horticulture for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to adult inmates. I was recruited by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to teach Horticulture and act as the Vocational Training Coordinator, which I have done for close to eight years. I oversee five different adult education programs, serve as the college coordinator, and work our institution's reentry initiative- getting adult inmates ready to reenter society with a resume and job skills.
I would never miss an opportunity to hear myself talk, so I lecture a great deal. Unfortunately grade school students have an attention span of only 15-20 minutes; I've learned to incorporate stories in every lesson to keep students entertained. I love group activities, to allow students to move about and engage with one another. Peers learn so much more from one another, so why not give them the chance to do so. The best way to sum this up is that I am a split between a teacher-centered classroom to a student-focused classroom. Start as a leader and end as a facilitator.

My name is Ricky Coppedge, and I have taught agricultural science classes since 2005. I have taught high school, incarcerated adults, and college students as an adjunct professor. I have certifications in Agriculture Science and Social Studies. My Doctorate of Education focused on curriculum development, which is my passion. I love to create new lessons for others and trying to invent creative ways to engage students to not only learn, but to inspire them to become lifelong learners.
