This is an assignment I sometimes use during my Crucible unit to make students defend Abigail Williams as if they were her lawyer. This works well after they've studied basic rhetoric (ethos, pathos, logos), and also asks them to cite from the play

I use this with my students to get them to create meaningful pieces of poetry about act 4 of The Crucible. I've had students do this individually, or as a small group. I am constantly surprised at the poems my students come up with! I love this

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 5th year teaching English at Basha High School. I do a great deal of research on the novels I teach and try really hard to make learning in the ELA classroom relevant and meaningful to my students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I encourage my students to think outside the box and read literature through a focused lens. I also have come to see that transparency in harder texts gives students the ability to become confident in what they are reading and thinking, which gives them the courage to speak up in class.
