TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an educator for 13 years. I began my career teaching fourth grade. From there, I moved on up to the middle school and taught 7th grade math for 6 years. After earning my Masters in Instructional Technology, I moved into the position of library media specialist. For the past 5 years, I have been a librarian at a 5th and 6th grade school. This year...time for another big change. I am staying home for a couple of years to focus on my three favorite kids (which happen to be my own!). I am volunteering at their school with 4th and 5th grade students in the library. It is a small private school, so I have very little access to technology, which can be a challenge, but it has upped my game in the creativity department!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want to meet the needs of my kids! I do this by incorporating a number of things that seem to work for my kids and me. We work both independently and within groups of 2 - 4 students. I love to pose a question and have students discuss their answers. Within a 40 minute library lesson, we switch gears multiple times, which keep the kids and me on my toes! I LOVE technology and think it can greatly enhance a lesson. Personal techy favorites of mine include Kahoot, HaikuDeck, PowToon, and incorporating short You Tube videos into my lessons.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

For the past 3 years, the students and I worked to earn the distinction of becoming a Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Certified school. (that's a mouthful!) I am also a Common Sense Media Certified Educator.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have an Elementary Education Degree (K-9) and a minor is special education (K-6). I am highly qualified in Mathematics (6 - 8) and am also a certified Library Media Specialist (K-12)

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Outside of teaching, I keep busy with the loves of my life - my hubby and three kids (10, 8, and 6). It is a beautiful (and chaotic) life! Oh, and I try to find some time to run - I do enjoy a good road race every now and then.
