I'm going on my 9th year as a Language Arts/Reading teacher of the gifted. My first 3 years were split between teaching 2nd-5th grades and 6th-8th. I currently teach 4th & 5th together in the mornings and 2nd & 3rd in the afternoons. It's been challenging working with so many age groups but highly rewarding as well.
Fostering diversity in thinking and providing opportunities for the students to interpret, analyze, and apply knowledge based on their interests and needs is a main goal in my classroom.
I was awarded "New Teacher of the Year" in 2006 by my colleagues.
I kind of fell into teaching. My friend worked at a school and told me there was an opening for a teacher of the gifted. I had just graduated college with a Psychology Degree (most of my studies emphasized early development and child psychology), and thought it would be a very enriching experience to teacher advanced students, so I took the plunge and was hired right after my interview.
I enjoy sewing, crocheting, and embroidery. I love anything that's handmade or vintage, and love to go thrifting.
