TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started my journey as an educator in 1993 at the age of 12, helping out with elementary students in my school. In 1996, I began to be trained in children's ministry education and worked in my church alongside our children's pastor. I also trained other teenagers to help us. In 1998, I took a position as a volunteer teacher's aide, summer school teacher and administrator for a small, private inner city Christian school. In 2002, I joined the staff of Girls Incorporated of Memphis as a program specialist and taught computer skills, culture and heritage, leadership skills, and conflict resolution. In 2004, I moved to the Educational Talent Search Program, where I served as a Career and Financial Aid Advisor for junior high and high school students. In 2007, I started my career in Early Childhood Education with KinderCare Learning Centers. In 2008, I started homeschooling, which I'm still doing today. In 2010, I became a Pre-K teacher for my former KinderCare director and then moved on to becoming a substitute teacher. In 2011, I was hired as a teacher assistant for one of the schools that I spent a great deal of time subbing for. In 2013, I went back to being a substitute teacher until November of 2014, when I started Choice Home Educational Consulting and Tutoring, the business I currently run.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love teaching with real books and games, especially board games! I also use project-based learning as an alternative to the usual tests and assessments, though I do still use them.
