I have been teaching for almost ten years, which doesn't seem like it at all! I have spent most of my time in fifth grade and I love the students and material at this age. However, I did teach first and second grade during my first couple of years. Additionally, I have also become a trainer of trainers for Thinking Maps and facilitated staff professional developments on various instructional practices. This year, I look forward to adding to my experience by working with teachers at the district level on strategies for struggling readers.
I would say I'm very passionate about teaching and try to instill that in my students. I'm also quite focused on structure and create this by implementing strong procedures and expectations for my students. I think students learn best when they're challenged in a rigorous environment. This task is up to us, the educators, to create these types of thinking opportunities for our students, which is probably why most of us are on this site to help each other achieve this goal.
I have a Bachelor's in Political Science and History and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I continue to take classes and other professional development opportunities to expand my own understanding of best teaching practices.
