TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is John Hoj and I teach at Nordhoff HIgh School in Ojai California. I am enjoying my twenty-second year in the classroom. I have taught Theatre Arts, United States History, World History, Government, AP United States History, AP World History, AP Government, and an elective class titled The History of Conflict Management. I received my credential and Masters in Education from University of California At Santa Barbara.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My goal is to link history to a student's own experiences. I enjoy the exploration, investigation, and play that can be had in a history classroom. I believe in using a diverse arsenal of techniques and resources to stretch the mind and provide a stable platform for growing context for the world around them and for the past. History involves the telling of good stories to give students a context for how other people, in other times, dealt with similar issues and solved similar problems to those that we all face today.
