Rick & Jason are longtime classroom teachers turned learning game designers and entrepreneurs who graduated with honors from The University of Houston.
Rick and Jason - the co founders of Histrionix Learning Company - created a curriculum aligned social studies simulation and strategy game called HISTORIA, which was featured in the PLAYMAKERS film series produced by The Gates Foundation, Institute of Play and Fast Company. HISTORIA was also featured in The Atlantic in an article entitled Designing a Classroom Game That Can Get Kids Excited about History. Recently, Histrionix formed partnerships with E - Line Media, Arizona State University Center for Games & Impact and Upper One Games to build HISTORIA into a curriculum aligned classroom-ready learning game, which will be released in Fall 2015 / Spring 2016. Last year - Rick gave a TEDxTalk about the history of HISTORIA called What if Sixth Graders Ruled the World? And Jason gave a TEDxTalk, too, about educational game design - called What if Learning was Fun? Currently, Histrionix is working with Neighborhood Centers, Inc - a Houston based United Way Agency that provides a full spectrum of social services - including schooling - to communities in need - to build a one of a kind game based middle school at the Ripley House campus in Houston's historic East End. Essentially - Histrionix trains teachers to design their own inquiry based - game based curriculum - no matter the subject - so students learn new knowledge and skills from interactive experiences designed by their teacher. As a result - our Teachers Pay Teachers store offers classroom tested, curriculum aligned inquiry based / game based lesson plan units and products for 4th grade - 8th grade students.
