I've taught 4th and 5th grade Math and Science for 5 years at a Title I school in Texas. My students are typically behind grade level and don't have a ton of home support. The majority of them are English Language Learners, and I've even taught as part of the Bilingual program. Just like everyone else, I have a mixture of all types of students- special ed, dyslexic, gifted and talented, etc. I find that often times I have to create my own simple, yet effective assessments and activities to address the TEKS I am required to teach. I hope you find them as helpful and useful as I do!
I believe consistency and high expectations coupled with a positive learning environment help students achieve. Do I work hard? Yes. But I can honestly say my students work harder than I do. I'm all about partners, group work and differentiation!
Teacher of the Year, Science Lead Teacher, 5th Grade Team Leader
I graduated with a degree in News-Editorial Journalism from TCU (go Frogs!), then received my teaching certification from Tarleton State University.
If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be teaching math and science to a bunch of 10 year olds, I would have called you crazy! But I absolutely LOVE my job and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!
