For the past fifteen years, I have taught both middle and high school English. In addition to my varied experiences in the classroom, I have also written and edited curriculum for online high schools and developed personalized tutoring programs to prepare students for the ACT and SAT. My wonderful students are my greatest resource and inspiration for the lessons I plan.
I consider myself a bit of a chameleon. My teaching style may vary on the dynamic of a particular class or the strengths and challenges of an individual student. My current place of employment has a block schedule, so class periods are 75 minutes long. During this time, I tend to chunk the time with opportunities for group discussion, peer editing, journaling, with a sprinkling of lecture. When planning activities and assessments, I strive to put myself in my students' shoes. I believe in giving students many opportunities to be successful, and I believe in creating an atmosphere that encourages students to take risks. I am often told that I am firm, yet gentle with my students, and I consider that to be a tremendous compliment.
Yet to be added
After graduation from Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, I attended Rollins College where I studied English and business administration. My teacher certification courses were taken at Florida Atlantic University, and since then, I have received my M. Ed. through Walden University, specializing in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
If I'm not in my classroom, you can find me spending time with my wonderful husband and my precious boxer. I love to curl up with a good book, create a new recipe in the kitchen, or indulge in a new pair of shoes. I've recently developed a love for yoga in order to relax and clear my head. Thank you so much for visiting my page; I wish you all the best in your teaching endeavors!
