My philosophy is that students cannot learn until all their basics needs have been met. One of those basic needs is their need to be loved and belong. When a student is comfortable in his or her environment, he or she can achieve anything. My classroom was always a loud, exciting, organized chaos environment (with the exception of whole group reading time), and now this world has followed me to one little loud library, where students are discovering resources, learning information science and reading skills, and actively tinkering away in a STEAM MakerSpace.

Teaching is in my blood. When I moved to the media center, teachers were excited that their students would be able to attend library classes with lessons that are well organized and state standards based. My answer was always, "I am a teacher first, a book-checker-out-er second." My mother was a teacher of 35 years, my sister is a teacher, my aunt is a teacher, my husband is a teacher, my brother in law is a school counselor, my two mother-in-laws are teachers...needless to say, we can easily open our own school. Teaching is in my blood and it is a passion that only grows stronger the more time I spend with the outstanding students in my small, rural south Georgia town. I am also a proud teacher of two birth children.
