I have been teaching middle school English/Language Arts for eleven years. I have taught in three different school districts in two different states. Prior to my classroom teaching experience, I was a gymnastics coach for kids ages 2 -14. It was during my coaching experience that I realized that I was best suited to work with young adolescents. With a love for English language and literature, I pursued my Bachelor's Degree in English Education at Florida State University. After I worked for a couple of years, I went back to school and earned my M.Ed. from St. Leo University. Although I have a degree in Educational Leadership, I have not yet pursued leadership opportunities outside of the classroom because I feel that I still belong in the classroom.
I believe that students learn best when they feel loved, cared for, and encouraged in a structured, safe learning environment. I have systems of organization and management in place in my classroom that help me control the learning environment in a non-threatening way. I also work hard to maintain genuine relationships with my students and to create an environment of love and respect to maintain a high rapport with them. This relationship makes their minds more open and willing to accept the academic information that I have planned for them. I tell my students that my classroom is a magical place where the magical experience of learning happens, and I always end my classes with a phrase that I learned from my mentor teacher (Mrs. Prevatte) "Have a magical day!" (Now my store name probably makes more sense to you!)
I was awarded several academic scholarships in high school that helped greatly with my college experience. As a gymnastics coach, I received a "Coach of the Year" award in 2005. I graduated Magna Cum Laude (undergraduate) & Summa Cum Laude (graduate). As a teacher, I have been recognized by several administrations as "Teacher of the Month" and I have served in leadership positions including ELA Department Chair, MESH Team Leader, & various Coordinator positions and Club sponsors.
