I have over 10 years of mathematics teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels - I have taught it all! I have served as department chair of mathematics, developing district assessments as well as facilitating professional development. I have devoted my professional life to teaching mathematics!
I believe a mathematics classroom should be carefully balanced with student driven inquiry and teacher facilitated learning opportunities. I believe teachers are coaches yet I also value the importance of modeling in order to teach mathematics. I believe students need opportunities to practice procedures in order to own new concepts.
Here's a random one - I once won my university's "most outstanding mechanical engineering student" award. Funny that I never became an actual engineer :) .
I have my Doctorate in Education with a specialization in Curriculum Leadership. My dissertation focused on teaching and learning mathematics.
