I have always loved math since I was a little girl. Even while I was still an undergraduate math major at Duke University, I accepted a teaching position at a Christian boarding school teaching grades 6-10. I then finished my Master's degree in Math Education, taught public high school in North Carolina, and Calculus lab classes at Duke. Now, 15 years later, I am teaching at a university overseas, while also helping my three elementary aged kiddos with their math. I am passionate and experienced about helping people master any and all levels of math, from Kindergarten to Calculus!
I believe in presenting very structured notes and explanations when introducing concepts. However, any concept can seem easy when presented by a gifted teacher. The secret, in my experience, is to provide a variety of fun, engaging in-class activities that help reinforce concepts, allowing students to engage with the material repeatedly until they have truly mastered it for themselves. I always remind myself that if my students don't look forward to math class as their favorite, then I am doing something wrong!
Wachovia Teaching Fellow 2000.
I graduated from Duke University in 1999 with a BS in Mathematics and Minor in Economics. I then finished my Masters degree in Math Teaching also from Duke in 2000, where I was honored with a Wachovia Teaching Fellowship.
My husband and I have lived and worked overseas for the past 12 years and love seeing the world from a vantage point outside of America. Our three elementary aged kids keep us very busy, and have the amazing privilege to be growing up trilingual... I'm kind of jealous!
