Teaching music is my passion. I have been fortunate to have 20 years of experience teaching K-12 music, as well as music directing on the college level. I currently an elementary music educator in Brookings, SD, and also am the music director for South Dakota State University Theatre. I received my Bachelors in K-12 Music Education, with a minor in theatre. I completed my Master's Degree in Education from Concordia St. Paul in 2014. I have been composing music all of my life. I have written music for toddlers to pre-K and elementary age students, original piano solos for every listener, and musical theatre pieces for all ages. I also am co-creator of a musical entitled "GROUP," which enjoyed honors of being showcased at PennState University in the new musical theatre festival in 2008.
My teaching style focuses on my passion and love of students, and music. I approach each day with an open mind, and honest energy to make a positive difference in the lives of my students. I approach my music lessons with excitement, creativity and exploration. Music methods of Kodaly and Orff were a large part of my training years ago. I am not afraid of trying new things, and in the classroom I have learned that success comes from taking chances. I work hard to nurture each and every learner!!
I feel very fortunate to spend each day doing what I love most! That is definitely a reward in itself! Teaching is a team effort. The elementary school I teach at, Medary Elementary in Brookings, SD, has recently been honored with a Blue Ribbon School award. Very exciting and a wonderful honor to be a part of a group of teachers that strive to be their best!
I grew up in South Dakota, and attended school in Beresford, SD. I received my Bachelor's degree from South Dakota State University, and my Master's degree from Concordia St. Paul.
Music has always been a very important part of my life! But, the MOST important of all is my daughter Francie! She is my joy and I love her so much. Francie is now 15, and we have so much fun in life. What more can I say? :)
