TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a proud military brat and DoDDS student. My father was in the Air Force and I started school at Bitburg Elementary and graduated from Zweibrücken High School. My whole reason for becoming a teacher was to return to Germany to teach for DoDDS. I feel like I am living the American Dream. My BA is in English and History; my master’s degree is in Education with an emphasis on literacy and reading. It seems unbelievable to me that this is my 23rd year of teaching. I taught in the U.S. for eleven years and have been in Germany for the last twelve. I am trained by the College Board in both AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature, with my most recent training taking place in Berlin in 2013. In 2009 I was one of 30 teachers nationwide who spent three weeks in California studying politics and the Constitution as part of a grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities. I did my 6+1 Traits of writing with Vicki Spandel and completed the Jeff Wilhelm literacy institute. I was published in Vogue magazine in 1996, and in 2012 I was published in Transforming Writing in the Digital Age: Techniques for Grades 5-12, by Thomas Devere Wolsey and Dana L. Grisham. In 2014 I was published in two books: Mining Complex Text; Using and Creating GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS to Grasp Content and Share New Understandings, by Thomas Devere Wolsey, Vol 1 Grades 2-5 and Vol 2 Grades 6-12.
