Terry Regan, MA, ET is an accomplished educational specialist and academic coach with proven experience as a teacher, trainer and counselor. My work focuses on helping all students, but particularly students with ADHD, LD’s, Dyslexia and emotional issues by creating collaborations to improve performance.I approach the demand of school in a hands-on approach that is meta-cognitive and practical. I collaborate to reorganize your methods of studying and management of time and effort. I figure out how to tame your monkey brain, focus your attention and get satisfaction from the effort you are making. Educational therapy is teaching/analysis/coaching from the framework of your cognitive issue. Neurodiverse people are unique practitioners of genius. Fitting in is often a struggle because I are the proverbial square pegs always making extraordinary effort. Workarounds manage the resultant stress and anxiety of fitting in: I need workarounds for our process. Coaching is a nuanced relationship—part life skills, part therapy, part change agent. The conversation I have is about clarifying your vision so you can follow through to your hopes and dreams. Experience governs solutions. I am expert in working with students to craft personal statements for applications to high school, college or grad school or med school. It's an organic editorial process where I drill down to craft sentences that answer the essential questions an application poses. I focus on understanding your skills/interests relative to major/minor areas of interest. I implement a pragmatic, structured method to minimize stress and maximize your clarity about your school and worth as a student.
Regan holds a Master of Arts in Education and Technical Writing [SFSU] and Certificates in Educational Therapy [UCSC] and College Advising [UCB]. He is the Headmaster for the Patagucci Institute for the Advancement of Humankind. I created the Certificates of Harmonious Development to provide a powerful tool to address the needs of students and educators everywhere.
I've followed my own hopes and dreams over the years. In doing so, I've been involved in a variety of endeavors: restaurant management and ownership, furniture making, design, decorative painting and real estate. I returned to school at 40 yo determined to complete a goal which eluded me in my youth. My experience then, reflects the path of many of my students now who have learning issues and labels which require them to exert more effort than their peers. It's not been easy, but looking back, it was worthwhile.
I maintains a private practice in a little red house on a dead end street in San Francisco. I like to garden, go the coffee shop and read. Current interest is poetry. Past interest include rowing—coach, coxswain and sculler, furniture maker, contractor and faux finish artist.
