TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am an Instructional Coach for Albuquerque Public Schools. While observing in a classroom I overheard a 7th grader trying to explain my role to a classmate. She called me a "teacher teacher," which made me smile! I have 19 years experience in public education. In those years, I spent seven teaching elementary grades and early childhood: grades K-3. I made the move to middle school mathematics and found my niche. I have since spent 10 years teaching middle school math in grades 6-8, most recently in 8th grade math and Algebra I. I have an Elementary Education license with an endorsement in performing arts as well as a Middle Level (5-9) license with an endorsement in mathematics. I am pursuing my dream of serving in teacher education as an independent educational consultant, providing professional development to colleagues in the areas of high-yield teaching strategies, using technology to gather formative assessment data, research-based homework and grading practices, interactive math notebooks, and classroom management strategies.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is active, energetic, cooperative, differentiated and filled with music, dance, games, and drama.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I've been nominated for a Presidential Award in Math as well as twice for a for a Golden Apple Award. I've always been too busy teaching to submit the work necessary to actually win those awards...
