TEACHING EXPERIENCE

  • 4 years in California at Alderwood Basics Plus teaching a computer curriculum I designed for K-6.
  • 4 years in North Carolina at Lowe's Grove Middle School teaching 7th and 8th, pre-Algebra and Algebra I.
  • 5 years in Ohio at Hershey Montessori teaching 7th, 8th, and 9th teaching pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Humanities, Occupations, Literature, and the Fine Arts.
  • Over 20 years of tutoring mathematics from elementary through Algebra II and adult education.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My style is truly a blend of all my past experiences which include traditional mathematical instruction, Montessori mathematical instruction, and my own classroom experimentation.

This means heavy use of materials and practice as ways for students to teach and retain these algorithms on their own and meaningful, practical application of their skill learning. These projects aren't just interesting explorations but aim to teach the students an adult skill, allowing them to dabble in what an adult occupation would be like. This is their primary job as adolescents; role-playing to practice as an adult.
