TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began my professional teaching career in Donna, Texas and continued that work in Taylor and Detroit, Michigan where I have taught in 6th-12th grades. I am a former English teacher and instructional team leader who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English- Secondary Education with an English and Speech certificate from Western Michigan University. I earned my master’s in K-12 Educational Leadership from Michigan State University and hold an administrative certificate in Michigan. I am also an alumna of Teach For America, where I served an under-resourced school in the deep south of Texas for two years, and later worked as a Curriculum and Literacy Specialist for Teach For America’s Chicago Summer Institute, leading the pedagogical training for hundreds of incoming TFA corps members. In my work as a teacher, I have acted as a high school Head Mistress at Trillium Academy in Taylor, Michigan, and as the Grade Level Chair for both 7th and 8th grades at University YES Academy in Detroit, Michigan. I worked at Detroit Collegiate Preparatory at Northwestern as the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction, and currently am the Administrator of Educational Services at Three Rivers High School in Three Rivers, Michigan.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a no-nonsense nurturer who believes in holding high expectations for all of my students. I support them with my academic routines and through TONS of reading.
