I began my teaching career in Garrett County, MD in 1977. I taught K-5 General Music, Beginning Band and Chorus. I was a member of the committee that created the county's first official music curriculum. I moved to northern Virginia in 1983 and continued my teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools. I taught K-6 General Music, Chorus and started a Tone Chime group. I retired from full-time teaching in June 2011. I am currently teaching General Music two days a week in Fairfax County Public Schools.
I would describe my teaching style as eclectic with an Orff emphasis. I want my students to experience all facets of music. I love teaching the recorder and note reading. I enjoy using Orff instruments, rhythm instruments and Tone Chimes in my classroom. I want my students to recognize and appreciate the music of great composers. Most of all, I want to instill a love of music in all of my students.
I have had the honor of sharing my love of music with children for the past 40 years.
