I have been teaching for 19 years in grades 4, 5, and 6. Though I teach all subjects, my emphasis has been in Science for a majority of that time. From the beginning I have incorporated music and the arts toward the purpose of making science exciting and memorable.
The Arts are CENTRAL to how I teach Science, History, and Language Arts. I use music to teach these subjects, to reinforce concepts, and just simply to make it more enjoyable.
I once got a blue ribbon for reading "I Think Mice Are Rather Nice" in first grade.
English major, science nut, and lifelong musician.
My dual interest in teaching science and playing music led me to form The Amoeba People, a science rock band with some good friends of mine. I am married and have two kids and I find teaching preposterously rewarding. In fact, my favorite thing about teaching is when I get my students excited about something and they go find out more about it, then come back and teach me something I didn't know.
