After 10 years in the high school classroom, I'm taking a wee break to be a mum. I started teaching Social Studies and Classical History before teaching English and Literature. I've worked in both New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia. I've been involved in a range of projects and positions, including Head of English and Acting Literacy Leader.
My experience in the social sciences helped me identify the need to focus on skills, not content. I like activities that help students identify the strategies they are using so that they can transfer those skills into any subject area. English is amazing in that we're teaching skills for every subject as well as sharing our passion for literature. I also love anything SHORT - short texts, quick activities and minimal planning!
Fulbright Scholar - 'Study of the United States of America' 2009
Bachelor of Arts (English) Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary)
Working in both NZ and Australia means my resources will be based on the NZ and VIC curriculums but I hope that the activities will be universal. I have a special interest in Literacy and am spending my stay-at-home mum time to research and deepen my understanding of what works. I will embark on PostGrad study when I have a teensy bit more time on my hands before taking what I learn back into the classroom.
