TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been in the class room since January 2013. Since I graduated in December I got a long term aide position for a student with autism. Once that year was over, I was a Title One Teacher for two years. I was with 2-3 grade for math and reading during my first year, and then 2-5 grade my second year. After that I was hired at a local christian school where I taught 4-6 grade math for 1 year. After that the ELA teacher moved to another position and I jumped at the chance! I have been teaching inclusion ELA for 4-6 grade for a few years now. My co-teacher and I knew each other before we started teaching and so we really click in the classroom. (not all co-teaching experiences are great, but ours sure is! we are lucky :) )

MY TEACHING STYLE

I whole heartedly believe that it is all about RELATIONSHIPS. My co-teacher and I spend a lot of time getting to know our students. It really makes a difference. Since I teach ELA it allows for a lot of flexibility and sharing of personal things when the students are open to it. I really enjoy having my students sit in groups and do collaborative learning. I always try to remember we are shaping the future and teaching English is just part of it.
