In addition, he served as a technology coordinator for a large high school monitoring the installation of over 800 computers and training over 75 teachers in the use of educational technology.
Highly involved with science students, Mr. T has been a FIRST Robotics coach, Science Olympiad coach, and Science Club advisor for many years.
Mr. T has helped many new teachers to move ahead by offering mentorship in many aspects of teaching. Most important topics have been classroom management, vision statement, professional boundaries, and efficient use of equipment.
In college, Mr. T was a lab instructor for general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. Prior to this, his first career was as an ASE certified auto technician (Engine Specialist).
Served as district curriculum development representative, school science safety coordinator, common core lesson development team member, NGSS curriculum team member, STEM Expo coordinator, and Astronomy Campout supervisor.
Teaching is about relationships. Mr. T believes the most important parts of any teaching experience clear boundaries, high expectations and respectful communication.
Mr. T is a strong advocate for inquiry and engineering design as pathways to a greater understanding of science. The 5E model allows students to discover. Discrepant events allow students to question. Embracing the experience of "doing science" and learning to enjoy making mistakes are common topics in class.
Mr. T has been lucky enough to have a prior career that involved hands on work and real world customers. This has helped to bring relevant and realistic activities to his science classes and activities. Mr. T is involved in the Maker movement through hands on creative designs and staying involved on social media.
