TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Began teaching in the New York City School system in 2000 where I taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Health. During my three years at the Lenox Academy, I had the pleasure of being the Balanced Literacy Liaison for my School. In 2004, I moved over to the Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, New York, where I have taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. During my tenure at Robert Frost Middle School, I have been a Mentor Coordinator for the District, a mentor for first-year teachers, and a Teacher Leader for the 8th grade Social Studies Department.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is very dynamic. I incorporate a variety of primary and secondary sources into my lesson plans. For the last three years, I have been fortunate to have readily available access to a mobile laptop cart. With easy access to technology, I have become well versed in a variety of education apps particularly google apps for education, quizelt, quizalize, brainscape, and peardeck.

22016 Suffolk ASSET Bright Lights Award for the Deer Park School District, 2016-18 Teacher Fellow for the National World War I Museum, 2013 Western Suffolk Boces Teacher Integration Grant (1,500), Using Comics to teach Social Studies and Art, 2016 CSPAN Summer Conference Invitation, Remind, Connected Educator, zzish/quizalize Ambassador, I have been honored to present at workshops and conferences such as the Long Council for Social Studies, Middle School Principal conference at St. Josephs College, Suffolk Asset Technology Conference, and at the National Council for History Education.

BA in Sociology/Anthropology with minor in Secondary Education-Dowling College, MA in Special Education- Touro College, Post-graduate certificate in School Administration- Stony Brook University.

Serving in the military since 2001 in the Navy/USMC reserves and Air National Guard since 2001 with a combat tour in Iraq. When I can get away from my lesson planning I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT. I’m living the dream and each day I come home to wine country to a supportive wife and a funny son.
