TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught elementary school in Texas and Hawaii, and am currently homeschooling my 13 year old twins. I am the author of 7 books: "Founders' Fables: Ten Tales For Future Patriots," "Magnificent Sam: The Amazing Adventures of Sam Houston," "The Miracle," "The Spirit of Texas Daily Reader," "Activity Guide," "Reproducible Book," and I wrote the text to the art book "A Hawaiian Legend of Love and Betrayal." The Spirit of Texas curriculum is written in partnership with long-time Texas history teacher and owner/director of Texas Educational Consultants, Yvonne Cumberland.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Traditional, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking skills.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

"Founders' Fables" is included in the recommended reading lists for both Constituting America and TFRW's Mamie Eisenhower Library Project. "Magnificent Sam" won the Gold Medallion, Will Rogers Medallion Award and is on the recommended reading list of the San Jacinto Museum of History. "Magnificent Sam" was also a finalist in the Writers' League of Texas and the Western Writers of America Spur Awards.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BS in elementary/special ed from Texas Tech University. MSSW from University of Texas @ Arlington. Early Childhood certification.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I also managed the domestic program at a large adoption agency in Texas, and have worked both professionally and as a volunteer with children for over 30 years. I occasionally speak at schools and at TSHA Educational Workshops about Sam Houston.
