I have been teaching for over 12 years. I started off with teaching the little ones in 2nd grade, moved up to 4th grade two days before the start of the school year. I spent 5 years teaching science to 9-12 graders who receive Specialized Student Services in a basic classroom setting. Currently working as a resource room teacher in a high school specializing in the science and medical fields.
I would have to say very Flexible, Hands-on, and Spontaneous, with a touch of humor. I try to keep an engaging classroom where there is interaction between teacher and students as well as between the students themselves. Working with special needs students, I had to learn quickly that what worked well with one student/class may not work for the next student/class. I had to continuously work on improving the way I present concepts to the students. What I planned for one lesson may change on the spot from my inner teaching voice or a suggestion from a student.
When my teaching peers started to use the different alternative assessments I had implemented in my classroom with my special needs students inside their general education classrooms.
