I taught Reading and Language Arts at the middle school level for 5 years in Buckeye, Arizona. I've also taught both Developmental Reading and Reading English as a Second Language at the community college level. This year (2013-2014), I am embarking on a new journey teaching high school English in Lacey, Washington! I love a new challenge!
This year, one of my students gave me the sweetest compliment I've ever received: "You inspire me because you treat everyone equitably and you love us all." It sounds kind of mushy, but it's true. My classroom is one of respect and friendliness as well as excellence and rigor. We work together, and everyone's ideas are valued.
I'm a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent English Language Arts. I've received my district's Pride Award for teacher who best exemplifies the work ethic and values of the Litchfield Elementary School District. I've also been a mentor to a student teacher as well as the coordinator of my school's New Teacher Mentoring Program.
I completed Reading Specialist coursework from Chapman University in 2010. I have a M. Ed. in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, and a B.A. in English Literature from Western Washington University.
