I created this PowerPoint for use in my middle school Language Arts class when I realized that some students had no idea what it means to revise their writing. I had so many saying, "You mean I have to write this again?!?!" With the PowerPoint,

Since children connect more with teachers who know more about them as a person, I created this "Getting to Know You" survey to give to my kids on the first few days of school. Younger students seem more apt to share lots of information, but I've

I have only used this lesson plan as a year-end review prior to state testing, but I think it would be a great activity at the beginning of the year too. I love how it gives the students a taste of what it feels like to be in the teacher's shoes

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for eleven years at a Title 1 school in Kentucky. During that time, I have sponsored a chapter of Builders Club and the National Junior Honor Society and coached volleyball and Academic Team. Now I am at an elementary school serving 500 students as their librarian. Truly the best of both worlds!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am more laid back than is probably necessary. I like to have fun with my students and get to know them on a personal level. Even in our world of standardized testing, I try to find ways to relate whatever standard we are teaching to the students' lives. I know that if I am bored in the classroom, the students probably are too. I just like to have fun while learning and teaching. :)

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been lucky enough to be able to help two student teachers finish their practicum experiences this year. I don't know if that counts as an honor, but I sure consider it to be one!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

After graduating from high school, I completed my Bachelor's degree in English Education at Ball State University where I also graduated from the Honors College. After that I got my Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Murray State University and then my certification in K-12 School Library from Murray as well.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I'm married to my wonderful husband, Patrick, and I have one stepdaughter. We live on a small farm with pigs and chickens, but my dogs are like my children.
