I have taught for eleven years at a Title 1 school in Kentucky. During that time, I have sponsored a chapter of Builders Club and the National Junior Honor Society and coached volleyball and Academic Team. Now I am at an elementary school serving 500 students as their librarian. Truly the best of both worlds!
I am more laid back than is probably necessary. I like to have fun with my students and get to know them on a personal level. Even in our world of standardized testing, I try to find ways to relate whatever standard we are teaching to the students' lives. I know that if I am bored in the classroom, the students probably are too. I just like to have fun while learning and teaching. :)
I have been lucky enough to be able to help two student teachers finish their practicum experiences this year. I don't know if that counts as an honor, but I sure consider it to be one!
After graduating from high school, I completed my Bachelor's degree in English Education at Ball State University where I also graduated from the Honors College. After that I got my Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Murray State University and then my certification in K-12 School Library from Murray as well.
I'm married to my wonderful husband, Patrick, and I have one stepdaughter. We live on a small farm with pigs and chickens, but my dogs are like my children.
