During my student teaching, I taught K-2 life skills, 4th grade resource, 5th grade resource, and at a credit recovery program for students to earn their high school diploma. I am currently in my second year teaching 3-4th grade resource where I infuse my curriculum with higher level thinking, writing daily in math and reading, grammar, and taking ownership of learning by assigning my students personal learning strategies.
My teaching style is to get my students as independent as possible. When they come into my classroom, their know what is expected of them, and they get down to it. I use a lot of humor and a lot of visuals. Almost all new lessons are started off with me modeling how I want the students to think through the current math/reading lesson/strategy. Each student has their own personal reading and math curriculum that is set up to meet their specific learning needs to fill in the gaps as I try to catch them up to their grade level peers.
