TEACHING EXPERIENCE

A 13-year veteran teacher, I have been teaching in a Title I school since January 2005. I just graduated with my M.Ed. in Child Development in April 2015, and I am currently a doctoral candidate. I am working on my doctorate in education, organizational leadership in K-12 education. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade in all subject areas. I was lucky to be offered a dream job and am currently the music teacher in my school teaching music to grades preK-6th grade, including special education students with autism and other developmental delays. I also teach remedial reading in RtI. I first worked as a PPT at a school located in a low-income area while working on my bachelor's degree. I also worked as a PPT for a Title I program at a private school, working with 7th and 8th grade with remedial readers. After graduating in 2004, I was hired at a public school where I am still currently teaching. I graduated with my BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. The school is located in a rather low-income area and has a high population of ELL and SPED students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

"Teach them, care for them, love them...as you would your own." I teach music to all my students. Music is an important part of education as it is important in life. I teach the flutophone and ukulele to my students. I sing and play the piano, guitar, and ukelele, and I do these with my students. They love it! I believe in education children in a holistic sense. "Maslow before Blooms..."
