I spent over 11 years in public education in Texas where I taught Pre-K and Kinder Special Education, 3rd grade, grades 9-12 Special Education (social studies, English, and math). At my last school district, I was an Instructional Coordinator and planned staff development. As a Higher Education professor, I taught undergraduate and graduate assessment and pedagogy courses in Curriculum and Instruction in the Education Department at two Universities. I provided Professional Development to many of the regional school districts.
My style at all levels of education is student centered, forcusing on student engagement and interesting lessons through differentiated instruction and using strategies such as cooperative learning, problem-based learning, 5-E Model of Instruction, and authentic assessment.
Who's Who in Teaching (chosen by several students as the most influential teacher they'd had); nominated by my department and university for the Piper Award in Teaching at the state level; Faculty Senate President; Editor of the University's education journal.
Bachelor's in Elementry Education/Special Education from the University of Texas at El Paso Master Degree in Assessment from The University of Texas at El Paso PhD in Special Education from The University of Texas Austin.
I worked in public schools for 12 years as a teacher and instructional coordinator. While some of my years were spent in special education, I also taught regular education. I loved teaching but believed I could untimately help more students by teaching future and current teachers about teaching. I loved that too!! I have two children and one grandson and am active in my community.
