Teaching is my passion and I love creating developmentally appropriate, content-rich materials for my classroom that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. In sharing my materials with other teachers, I hope to increase student engagement and a love for learning (and teaching)! I began teaching in 2001 with my Master's degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. While the majority of my teaching years have been spent in 5th grade, I have also taught 4th grade and Kindergarten. This experience has been invaluable in helping me to understand a child's learning progression from Kindergarten to Middle School!
My goal each year is to know my students as people and learners. I try to motivate them to be respectful of each other and themselves, so that they will grow into happy, well-adjusted adults. As I introduce new concepts, I tie in humorous stories from my own childhood, showing them why the skills we're working on are relevant to their own life. I believe in making personal connections with and between my students and helping them to understand the 'why' behind their learning.
