Hard to believe it but this will be my 9th year teaching! In those 9 years, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in a small urban/suburban school in south Kansas City. I currently teach Kindergarten and have a very diverse group of students every year that all come with very different educational backgrounds. Five years ago, I was selected to participate in a unique science professional development opportunity along with 50 other local teachers. For 3 years, we improved our content knowledge and teaching instruction to strengthen our students experiences in science. I am now so lucky to say that I was selected for the same grant, this time focusing on refining our math content knowledge and instruction for the next 3 years!
I have a very diverse group of students every year that all come with very different educational backgrounds. No two students are the same and neither should my teaching! I am constantly trying to create or find new ways to instruct and influence my students so they become inspired to continue learning for a lifetime!
