TEACHING EXPERIENCE

After attending the Pennsylvania State University College of Education and attaining a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on literacy from the George Washington University. I am a fervent believer in the power of data to drive instruction and ensure success in education outcomes. As a reading specialist, my favorite part is teaching phonics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Establishing a strong foundation in phonics is necessary for readers of all skill levels. I use a multi-sensory approach to phonics allowing students to learn in an exciting and entertaining environment. Using a multi-sensory approach, allows students to practice repetition in a variety of ways. A balanced approach to literacy includes combining modeling, shared, independent, and guided learning allowing students to learn in their zone of proximal development and have the proper scaffolding to master a topic. Inquiry-based learning empowers student voice and enables students to take ownership of their own learning and reach their goals. It fosters curiosity and a love for learning in a way that increases motivation and engagement. Provided the right tools each student can reach their full potential.
