TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a private piano, theory, and composition teacher with seven years of experience teaching beginner to advanced students. I have also delivered lectures in Ancient Greek (Euripides' Alcestis) and Music History (Renaissance madrigals) to undergraduate students and led undergraduate tutorial sessions for Introductory Latin, as well as 19th- and 20th-century Music History.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Dynamic and creative! My goal is to instil a love and appreciation of music in every student which will follow them throughout their lives, regardless of whether they choose to pursue music as a career.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Governor General's Silver Medal (Governor General of Canada) for highest standing in an undergraduate degree program

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have earned a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Classical Studies (Language Specialization) from the University of Waterloo. I am currently a PhD student in Musicology at the University of British Columbia where I am studying how music contributes to player immersion within pastoral and anti-pastoral landscapes in four video games from the Final Fantasy series. I am also a Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) certified teacher with an ARCT in Piano Pedagogy.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My first novel for young adults, Kingdom of Secrets, was published in 2011. In addition to the piano, I enjoy playing cello and electric guitar. I also like to play video games whenever I have the chance! My current obsession is Final Fantasy XV.
