TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Debra has her Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Social Studies with additional certifications in English and English to Speakers of Other Languages. She has been teaching Language Arts and Social Studies in North Carolina for six years. Teaching two subjects is a joy for Debra because she genuinely loves both subjects. Debra has been an item writer for a North Carolina-based Language Arts formative assessment testing bank and for a national consortium.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Debra employs a various methods to keep her students attentive, persistent and committed. She uses cooperative learning, some direct-instruction, Socratic seminars, webquests, literature circles, self-created worksheets and more.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Debra was awarded the ETS Recognition of Excellence for a score in the top 15 percent of all test takers on the Secondary Social Studies Praxis exam.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Debra received her Masters of Art in Teaching (MAT) from UNC Chapel Hill and her bachelors from the SUNY Geneseo in Anthropology (BA Anthropology).

Debra is originally from Long Island, New York but now lives in North Carolina. She believes in ignoring the politics of education and in simply doing her best for her students.
