TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Randy has three years formal teaching experience and over 5 years leadership training experience. He also has experience in the following areas: program development, grant writing, curriculum writing and professional development programming/training.

MY TEACHING STYLE

"My style consist of critical thinking question driven discussions that I begin yet allow the students to facilitate through dialogue. I initially begin each lesson by teaching the specific goal of the content and facilitating a discussion as a means to both keep students engaged and assess their understanding of what was taught. School textbooks are generally used on an as-needed basis: course text are comprised of current texts that are historical non-fiction or historical fiction surrounding our course units. I also incorporate film - documentaries, to expose issues that our curriculum seeks to bright to light for student growth."

Randy is a graduate of Camden Catholic High School, and he has received both his bachelor and masters degrees from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Randy R. Miller is a social studies teacher at the LEAP Academy University Charter School in Camden, NJ, with 3 years experience teaching all high school grades. While teaching, Randy has author curricula for two courses, mentored his colleague teachers in both a formal and informal capacity, facilitated school district-wide professional development trainings for faculty, served as SAT & ACT testing proctor and has received numerous awards for teacher of the month and teacher of the year. Previously, Randy served as a project manager for the Community Leadership Center at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey where he managed various professional development programs for both the public and private sectors. Randy is the author of The Double D’s of Destruction: How Our Distracted And Desensitized Consciousness Is Destroying Our Communities And Failing Our Children and he is a contributing author in Black Male Teachers: Diversifying the United States' Teacher Workforce. Randy is also a co-founder and leader of MORE Inc. (Manifesting Opportunities for Renewal and Empowerment), a non-profit organization that works with African American male youth. Randy holds his Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Mr. Miller is married and currently resides with his wife and son in Southern New Jersey.
