Corbin Abernathy worked as a classroom Music and Drama Educator for both public and private institutions in the US and the UK for 15 years. His work as an Independent Teaching Artist spans over 20 years and his current client list includes the Walnut Street Theatre, Philly ASAP as a Teacher Trainer, Philly Senior Stage, and the Continuo Arts Foundation. In addition to his work as a Teaching Artist with a vibrant private studio, Corbin presents workshops and masterclasses nationwide for organizations such as the Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Senior Theatre USA and the Educational Theatre Association. Corbin also performs professionally and is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association and the National Association for Teachers of Singing.
Corbin's teaching style is collaborative, encouraging, specific and investigative. He works to lead students to implement their own insights and follow their own impulses. He believes that students not be held to an arbitrary or one size fits all assessment criteria. To that end, Corbin uses assessment rubrics extensively, for he feels that when students clearly understand what is expected of them and what criteria determines what level of achievement, students will then accept their assessment result more readily and recognize a specific path to greater achievement.
